What a difference a month makes. The spring flowers are starting to peter out with the summer heat. I need to get some fall flowers in the garden now. I've heavily cut back some of the spring perennials with the hope that some of them will make a reappearance. The pumpkin plants in the background are insane! I'm happy to report that I now have about 6 white pumpkins growing.

The garden keeps growing! I bought several more plants today, but the ground is pretty wet with the rain from last night and this morning. My witch yard stake arrived yesterday and it promptly went into the garden. I threw in a photo of the front yard since everything is starting to sprout up in front too. The gerber daisy is a beautiful shade of orange and the flying pig was a find at one of my local nursery haunts.

Here's a photo of Patty's Halloween garden. Check out that cool witch rock! I want one!

Fast forward 15 days and the garden is starting to show some signs of growing. The two pumpkin mounds have sprouted! The lower right picture is the 'Fiber Optic' grass. The lower left picture is a 'Mrs. Bradshaw' geum. It's in one of my other beds, but I just love the color. It may be moving to the Halloween bed in the fall. The middle of the bed has a newly planted 'Harry Lauder's Walking Stick' bush. I should be receiving some plants this week from Wayside Gardens. I'll be adding a 'Black Knight' buddleia and 'Coconut Lime' echinacheas.

OK, here's the starting point. I know it's nothing exciting...yet. It's not a huge space, but since the horrible Japanese beetle infestation of 2007, I didn't want to do vegetables again. The only vegetables in this bed are the two mounds (in front of dryer vent) for the white pumpkins and the mini white boo pumpkins. The only plants to date are the two orange geums, orange pansies, white petunias, and burnt orange marigolds (not pictured). Still debating on what specimen tree to put in the center. I'm thinking of the Harry Lauder's Walking Stick tree??? Full-blown plantings will have to wait for two more weeks. Can't wait to put out some of the garden art that I've found.
